The Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Food Security took the initiative in collaboration with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing, to organise Sri Lanka participation at the 7th China-South Asia Exposition and 27th China (Kunming) Import and Export Fair which is jointly organised by the People’s government of Yunnan Province, Department of Commerce and the Foreign Office of Yunnan Province, and the China Council for the promotion of International Trade Yunnan sub council.

Sri Lanka has recognised China-South Asia Exposition is an iconic Trade exposition and well recognized by the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Food Security and the export community in Sri Lanka since its inception. This year, after 3 years of gap due to pandemic, Sri Lankan companies responded enthusiastically for the participation in order to capture the market opportunities and renew their relationship with Chinese business partners.  Sri Lanka business delegation comprises fifty eight ( 58) Sri Lankan companies with over 75 representatives, which is the largest trade delegation visiting from Sri Lanka over a last 3 years. The companies will promote range of products such as Gems & Jewellery, Ceylon Tea, Confectionery, Processed food, Cashew, Spices, Coconut Kernel products, Batiks and Handicraft.

On the invitation of the Yunnan Department of Commerce, Hon. Nalin Fernando, Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security will visit China and address the China- South Asia Business Forum and will attend bilateral meetings and other sideline events parallel to the China-South Asia Exposition.

 China-South Asia Exposition will provide platform for Sri Lankan companies to explore more opportunities as Chinese consumer market is emerging as very lucrative market. There is untapped potential to be explored for further promoting of Sri lankan exports and participation will benefit to capture more market access for eligible products.

Fam-Trip

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Collaboration with Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) organized a FAM Trip for Vietnamese media from 7th to 14th May 2023. Five media personnel, namely, Ms.Lai Thi Thuy Ha from Van Hoa newspapers, Mr.Vu Dinh Toan from Dan tri(people wisdom) newspaper, Ms.Bui Thi Lan Anh from VOV e-Newspaper/TV, Ms. Nguyen Hong Ha from VTV2-Television, the number 1 TV channel in Viet Nam and Mr.Tran Viet Phuong, a blogger and youtuber participated in this event.

The media group visited Negombo, Sigiriya, Minneriya Wild Life Park, Koneshwaram temple in Trincomalee, Passikudah, Ella and Nine Arch Bridge, Ravana Falls, Little Adams Peak, Nuwara Eliya, tea Factories, tea gardens, Kandy and Colombo. They were quite impressed by the natural beauty of Sri Lanka as they enjoyed their stay in Sri Lanka and assured this as a potential new destination to promote among Vietnamese travellers.
